From the time she was a very small child, Marie Reeder's adoration for music was apparent. Her earliest inspirations include Tchaikovksy, Beethoven, musical mastermind Stephen Schwartz and contemporary composer and pianist William Joseph. Her love for music grew with her, until one day she longed to make her own. As her 9th birthday present, Reeder's mother enrolled her in piano lessons. By the time she was a teenager, she knew that piano was her calling in life.
At the age of 17, Reeder was asked to teach the children of a family friend, thus commencing her teaching career. News spread quickly that she was offering lessons and within a year, she had developed a sizeable roster of private students. 3 months later, she began her studies as a music major at Riverside City College's Coil School for the Arts under the tutelage of Dr. Jeanette Wong. While at RCC, a professor tasked Reeder with using her teaching experience to help establish a piano tutoring program to teach other music majors how to teach. She also worked as a student instructor for class piano.
After graduating from RCC, Reeder was accepted as a Piano Major at the University of Redlands. There, she studied with reknowned Artist Professor Louanne Long. Long helped Reeder embrace her affinity for Piano Pedagogy, commissioning her to create classes specifically for very young children, program recitals that were intentionally kid-friendly, as well as teach at their annual Summer Piano Camp. The University also afforded Reeder the opportunity and skills to grow her private studio to over 60 students. During her time at Redlands, Reeder also served as the pianist for the Symphonic Band, accompanying large ensemble works and even once debuting a piece composed specifically for the University.
Once she completed her studies at the University of Redlands, Reeder chose to focus her attention on music pedagogy and collaborative performing. She ran a private organization that helped local young professionals acquire the skills needed to become successful private teachers. Reeder also dedicated substantial time as the pianist-in-residence for a number of wedding venues in both Riverside and Orange Counties until she was offered a position with a local school district as a collaborative pianist for their various school choir programs. It is this experience that she is most proud of. Since joining the school district, she has accompanied countless full-length concerts, competitions, and performances, working with hundreds of students along the way. She has also had the honor of performing in numerous full-length Broadway and Off-Broadway musicals with the district, a task that she always looks forward to with great enthusiasm.
Reeder continues to play for local schools and organizations. She also maintains a roster of private piano students from her home studio, ranging from very beginners to collegiate level pianists.
When she isn't on stage, in the orchestra pit, or teaching, Reeder enjoys spending time with her dear husband and two sweet sons, baking, gardening, and sight-reading musicals. She remains grateful for the priveledge it is to pursue one's passion as a means of "work" and she thanks her Lord and Savior Jesus Christ for the beautiful people who have lent her their wisdom, guidance, support and love.
